Oyster Fishing

Do you enjoy the brine of fresh oysters? We have some of the best Oyster fishing Vancouver Island has to offer just steps off our oceanfront patio. Throw on your boots, grab a bucket and you’re ready to dig, pick and forage for the fresh oysters. We also have contacts with local fisherman that will be happy to supply you with fresh daily caught oysters and other crustaceans.

Be sure to grab a license because you can be fined without one

Wacky Woods Trail (2.2 Km)

Artistic and unusual, the Wacky Woods trail offers a trip down the rabbit hole. Enjoy the day exploring the artistic creations of George Sawchuk. In 1976 Sawchuk and his wife Pat Helps bought 4 acres of land in Fanny Bay, B.C. They built a house and tilled a vegetable patch, Sawchuk used the rest of the wooded area to work on his art. He spent his time attaching found objects to trees, carving sculptures and building wooden books with quotations. His forest gallery is filled with works art work, often with a political slant. Sawchuk continued working on his artistic creations until he passed away in 2012. The trails are on private land, the owners are generous enough to share Sawchuk’s artistic vision, please be respectful of the artwork and trails. Be sure to pack in out what you pack in.

Lighthouse Country Trail (15.8 Km)

Looking to get some fresh air? The Lighthouse Country Trail is open to walkers, runners, cyclists and equestrians. The trail includes 2 km of accessible terrain which is closed to equestrians. The Lighthouse Country Trail allows for everyone to get out and enjoy the beautiful coastal Douglas-Fir forest.

Mountain Bike Trails

Looking to get your adrenaline pumping, Mountain Bike trails are only 2.5 km away. No matter what your skill level, the local area offers beginner to advanced mountain bike trails.

Rosewall Creek Provincial Park (2.6 km)

This park was established in 1956, in memory of Lt. Ian Macdonald (1920-1944). The picnic site in the park is dedicated to his memory. The historical Rosewall Creek Provincial Park is located just a few minutes away from the Lighthouse RV Park. With approximately 7.5 Km of trails for hiking and mountain biking. The trails are not for the faint of heart, the trail is rustic and accessibility may be difficult for some. Proper footwear is highly recommended. The Park is dog friendly, dogs must remain leashed. Although there are no designated swimming areas. In the summer months when the water is low, the river pools offer great swimming opportunities and areas along the shore to relax.

Deep Bay Marine Field Station (9.8 Km)

Take a guided or self guided tour and learn about marine conservation issues and how you can help protect the marine environment. Take in the amazing views of Baynes Sound or get up close with local marine life by visiting the aquaria and touch tanks. Children under 5 are free when accompanied by an adult

Horne Lake Caves

Ranked as Canadian Kids Top 25 Activities. Make the trip to Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park just a short drive away from the Lighthouse RV Park. We highly recommend booking a guided tour exploring the depths of Horne Lake Caves, tours range from the 1 hour, Main Cave Experience to a 5 hour Extreme Cave Rappel. If you prefer to explore on your own, self guided cave access is available from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM daily. Being unground isn’t for you? Enjoy the coastal rainforest while hiking the 1.5 Km Phil Whitfield’s Fossil Geology Trail. The 30 minute loop is a moderately strenuous uphill trail with 8 info stops.

Denman and Hornby Island (8.7 Km to ferry terminal)

While staying at the Lighthouse RV Park, you can make the day trip and enjoy everything Denman and Hornby Island has to offer. The residence of Denman and Hornby Island produce an abundance of unique arts and crafts and helped the Gulf Islands earn an esteemed reputation around the world. Denman Island is connected to Vancouver Island by a 2 Km ferry service which provides beautiful views. While on Denman or Hornby Island enjoy a variety of experiences such as kayaking, mountain biking, camping, hiking trails, beaches and swimming or just relax while taking in the world class views. If the ferry isn’t for you, the Lighthouse is now offering private charters to and from Denman and Hornby Island. Please contact the Lighthouse for additional information.

The Lighthouse

OPENING SOON – JUNE/JULY 2018- The Lighthouse RV Park will be opening its restaurant this summer. The menu will be filled with delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner options sure to please any appetite. Come on in for a few dozen oysters and a cold beer. We are happy to serve you.

Fanny Bay Inn (4.0 Km)

A local favourite, the Fanny bay Inn was built in 1938 and has been serving great food, drinks and local oysters for the past 80 years. The FBI is located a few minutes away from the Lighthouse RV park. The FBI offers live music and daily drink specials.

West Coast Breeze Food Truck (4.5 Km)

Located at the Fanny Bay wharf, the West Coast Breeze is great choice when in Fanny Bay. The Food truck atmosphere offers a wide range of menu items as well as a list of frozen treats to enjoy on a hot summer day. Parking is available just off the highway. Walk to the pier to visit the staff at the West Coast Food Truck, they will be happy to serve you. The hours of operation vary due to weather. We advise to call ahead if you plan on making the short trip.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, Just Like Mom’s is the place for you. Located in Union Bay, B.C. just a 10 minute drive north of the Lighthouse RV Park. Just Like Mom’s offers a wide range of baked goods sure to satisfy your cravings, from bread to buns, cookies, butter tarts, pies and everything in between. Just Like Mom’s also offers a wide range of handmade jams, soups and other warm treats. If you’re looking for farm fresh eggs, Mama will be happy to serve all your needs.
